• Adults (18-40) who have been living with/ have been recently diagnosed with epilepsy.
• Those who have experienced the lack of emotional support for navigating life with epilepsy.
A. The Stigma
• Exploring the attached taboo – fears and insecurities that stem from it
• Resolving fatigue from being looked at or treated differently
• Uncovering underlying resentment against people who are healthy.
B. Challenges in daily life
• Exploring struggles and frustrations of daily life
• Managing pent up anger of having limitations with things you can/cannot do
• Coping with the stress and fear of where and when the next seizure will happen, looming fear of what happens next (Fear of SUDEP)
• Challenges of treatment and side effects of life long medication
C. Family and Love
• Exploring support and the lack of it from caregiver/spouse/family
• Discussing the impact on relationships – romantic and otherwise”

Matsya Surgeon who has epielpsyCarol D’Souza has over 20 years of experience in facilitating Support Group Meetings and in Counselling & Psychotherapy.
She has been invited to speak at the W.H.O. as well as to numerous national and international epilepsy congresses and at epilepsy awareness programs.
Carol is a published researcher who has been awarded the prestigious Ambassador for Epilepsy award in 2009 by the International League Against Epilepsy and the International Bureau for Epilepsy.
She is the editor of Conquering Epilepsy (2 editions) and she is grateful that her experience with epilepsy has enabled her help countless people with epilepsy.

While the format can vary as per topic, here’s a flow that most sessions follow
Check In. Participants check-in with each others’ feelings and answer the prompt given by the facilitator if any.
Conversation. Your facilitator will guide the group in a free-flowing conversation—with the goal of sharing openly, talking honestly, and deep emotional connection.
Check Out. Participants share what they’re taking away from the session.
Participants say that they feel heard, understood, more in control, and a feeling that you’ve got people rooting for you. By talking about your emotions and what’s going on in your life, you’ll realise that you’re not alone and get ideas for how to improve your situation.
